    Low-Maintenance Plants

    Low-Maintenance Plants Gallery

The backbone of Field’s plant designs include “best of class” plants that work well in urban yards. For the most part they come up early, have a thick leafy canopy that looks good all year long and have a great consistent shape. Divided into sun and shade groupings these are plants we often custom grow through our unique relationship with Wilson’s Nursery and are offered at our plant sale each June.

Adding brighter greens to a garden space livens it up and adds visual interest to a backyard retreat.

    Hosta / Carex pensylvanica mix
    Amsonia hubrichtii
Gravel pathways and sitting areas add informality and contrast to the hard, formality of the concrete paver patio area.

    Carex Speciosa
Sporobolus heterolepsis is a great meadow grass for slopes. It's fiberous root system locks soil in place. Paired with other meadow perennials like Rudbeckia, Salvia, Asclepias, and Sedum this slope becomes a lush, low maintenance perennial meadow combination.
Slope transformation from blah to WOW!

We call this our "Meadowbox combination for shade"!
    Allium 'Millenium'
Hopkins, MN. Front yard meadow island plantings.
Leaf color, size, and shape of the Ajuga 'Chocolate Chip', Sempervivum, and Sedum kamshchaticum plays nicely of the corten steel.
    Field Life
    Calamagrostis brachytricha
Meadow gardens are perfect for slopes as the plants root systems lock the soil in place. In spring bloom are Amsonia tabernaemontana ‘Blue Ice’, Sedum Kamtschaticum.
    Interrupted Fern
Asclepias tuberosa, Amsonia 'Blue Ice', and Sedum kamtschaticum are a great pairing for a meadow garden with a complimentary color scheme. The Bluestone wall helps to cool down the color palette.
