“Limited Space, We’ve Got Ideas” Shannon O’Halloran and I started Field Outdoor Spaces in 2005 focusing on urban, small space landscaping because it was what we knew and the types of neighborhoods we loved. We thought there must been a bunch of people out there who have great projects they want done but don’t relate to the “palatial” pictures on most landscaping websites.
But more importantly, we wanted to create a company that was about people. We wanted to make the company WE wanted to work for – empowering, free of drama, where great people could focus on doing great work.
Field is the the prototypical company – we started working out of my garage. Our next company home was shared with a pallet company in the building behind the Casket Building in North East Minneapolis. It was crummy and dirty. Then we moved to a slightly less crummy spot in Seward before coming back to Northeast to a really great spot in the Frost Building.
We’ve had the opportunity to work side by side with over a hundred amazing people and installed hundreds of projects focused in Southwest Minneapolis, Longfellow, Northeast; Highland Park and MacGroveland in St. Paul and inner ring suburbs like St. Louis Park, Golden Valley and Richfield. It is really gratifying to drive down the streets of these neighborhoods and recall all the great clients and cool living spaces they’ve entrusted us to create.
Although we now have over 10 trucks, and the latest technologies we still focus entirely on small yard, natural urban landscaping and creating an empowering work environment we all want to work in.
