    Landscape Preferred Partner

It is never too early to start thinking about the ongoing care of your new landscape. Our landscapes are designed and installed to be low maintenance and sustainable over the long term. It takes some extra love and TLC in the first 2-3 years to get your landscape to a point where the plants begin to fill in and the maintenance requirements decrease. By investing a little extra time during those first few years, you’ll reap the benefits later.

    Seasonal Garden Maintenance

Some well-timed weeding goes a long way towards keeping your landscape “under control”. Weeds are completely expected in any landscape. Newly installed landscapes are particularly susceptible to weed infestations. The soil has been freshly disturbed and plants are smaller so there is more open space, making it a perfect spot for weed seeds to come in and take advantage of the situation. As the plants grow in and fill out, the open areas are reduced thereby creating less space for weeds to get in and flourish.

    What can you do?

Pay attention to what is happening in your landscape. Plan to spend some time weeding every couple of weeks starting in late May through late June. If you can stay on top of it when the weeds are small and easy to pull it should only require 1-2 hrs. each time. Once we hit the 4th of July, the weather tends to heat up and the weeds slow down. You may only need to pull a few weeds 1-2 times between the 4th and Labor Day.

We all have busy lives and know that time can get away from us. If you would like some help with your garden maintenance, we have some recommendations for local companies who have maintenance divisions and are fully equipped to help you with the care of your space.

    Lawn Assessment and Treatment

It is not uncommon to see weed growth in newly seeded lawns as well as in established lawns that, for whatever reason, are a little bit patchy or sparse. Both situation result in areas with exposed ground which are perfect spots for weeds to take hold.

    What can you do?

For help with seeding, weed control, fertilization, and general lawn care of new and existing turf contact, Rainbow Lawncare.

If you have a no-mow turf area, Rainbow Lawncare is equipped to take care of that as well. If you plan to handle any reseeding on your own, we recommend using the Prairie Nursery No Mow Seed Mix which is available online at: www.prairienursery.com/store/no-mow-lawn/no-mow-lawn-seed-mix.
