My primary focus is working with clients to secure projects and fill the installation schedule.
Much of my time during the installation season is spent turning through designs while making clients and projects feel special and uniquely ‘Field’. This includes focusing on the clients wants and needs, reflect their personality a bit in the landscape, and instill something special in each design / project. I also manage the design process timeline to make sure the design process goes smoothly and quickly to book projects and keep the crews busy.
The flow of a space is often taken for granted, even in a small foundation bed. Yet how a layout fits its surroundings shapes how it functions, feels, and is used. It’s one of the most important early design steps, and where I spend a good bit of time, carefully shaping a layout that responds to the site, meets the client’s needs, and allows for easy, intuitive movement.
Background & JourneyWith a Bachelor of Fine Arts from MCAD, design work has always been my passion. Before making the switch to landscaping, I spent 15 years as a Technical Designer in the Twin Cities apparel industry, working with everything from evening wear and athletic gear to stuffed animals and dog wear. My career culminated at Target, where I served as a Technical Design Manager for the Men’s and Intimates departments. In this role, I specialized in transforming a designer’s 2D sketch into a functional, three-dimensional garment that met exact specifications. This required collaboration with designers, fit models, and overseas manufacturers to solve complex construction puzzles. I developed skills in precision and project management that I now bring to every landscape I design.
My love of plants goes back to my college days when I worked in a pop-up greenhouse to help pay for tuition. When I decided to make a career change, landscape design seemed like the natural choice. I attended Dakota County Technical College and obtained an Associate Degree in Landscape Design.
I first discovered Field as a client before going back to school. I hired them to transform my own backyard. In 2012, when I graduated from DCTC and began looking for a job, fate led me back to Field. Over the past 12 years, I’ve evolved from a Design Assistant to a Lead Designer, finding a perfect blend of my technical troubleshooting skills and my lifelong passion for plants. Field has been the most collaborative and fulfilling home for my creativity. Landscape design is like painting with plants, and every plan becomes a unique piece of art that I can pass on to our clients to enjoy for years to come.
I design for the client, not myself. My goal is to translate your needs into a unique space that honors your personality, respects your investment level, and stays true to Field’s signature naturalistic style.
I love working on unique concept and hardscape designs and designing in tight spaces. Intertwining functions in a landscape requires a lot of troubleshooting and design savvy, as well as creative blends of materials to make it both functional and beautiful. Fitting the “puzzle pieces” together is my specialty.
Favorite Project Type
I love designing tight spaces. Intertwining functions in a small landscape require a lot of troubleshooting, design savvy, and creative blends of materials to make it functional and beautiful at the same time.
A Standout Moment
There have been many over the years, but my most memorable project is the one that earned the APLD Gold Award. It actually started as a pretty standard design approach, but we weren’t quite hitting the mark for the client’s vision. They dropped two words that changed everything: “Rockstar Formal”. That phrase cracked my creativity wide open! It led to a one-of-a-kind design that was energizing from start to finish. I’m so proud of our incredible installation team and subcontractors for bringing the design to life.
Outside of FieldWhen I’m not designing, I enjoy playing in my own garden and touring local gardens for inspiration. I love walking and hiking with my dog, Freddie, and frequenting community farmers’ markets on the weekend.
