    Meadowbox

    Home › Meadowbox

meadowbox2Fill your outdoor space with life, not weeds.

Introducing Meadowbox: pre-planned plant communities to fill any part of your yard. Increase plant, insect and soil life with a Meadowbox community. These low-maintenance plant communities work together over time, filling in the space and outcompeting weeds – and require less maintenance than mowing. Other strategies like lawn and rock mulch only smother the life out of soil, and require much more work from you.

Learn about Meadowbox in person at Mother Earth Gardens on Sep. 24

    Easy to buy:

Tell us roughly how many square feet you need and choose a plant community based on how much sun the area receives.

    Easy to plant:

You’ll receive a box of plants in June. Just follow the matrix planting guide provided.

    Easy to care for:

Follow our detailed instructions and you can’t fail. You can always give us a call with any questions.

    How does it work?

We design each Meadowbox self-sustaining community to knit together over time to outcompete weeds and provide habitat for butterflies and other pollinators. Each combination includes a short grass-like plant, giving the community its predominant look, and at least one filler – a short plant with dense foliage – to shade out large areas. The community is rounded out with 2-3 flowering plants to provide seasonal interest. As the community matures the next year there may be a need to augment it, filling in any “holes.” We’ll stop by with our toolbox of filler and groundcover plants and finish off the planting.

The most important part of choosing plants isn’t what color the flower is, when it blooms, or how tall it grows, but how it interacts with other plants around it – either filling the bed with weeds, or filling it with life.

Meadowbox works great alone or alongside trees and shrubs. We suggest using other environmentally friendly solutions like “no mow” lawns and raingardens. If you need help, we’re only a call away. We can help with additional design considerations, install your Meadowbox or stop by to make sure it’s going in the right direction.
