Your “Field” Guide to the Minnesota State Fair
Your “Field” Guide to the Minnesota State Fair
Excitement is building for one of Minnesota’s most beloved traditions. It’s State Fair time! This year, we asked three members of our Field team to share their can’t‑miss moments, from the foods they look forward to all year to the sights and experiences that keep them coming back. Their favorites are a mix of classic, quirky, and wholeheartedly Minnesotan, and we’re delighted to pass along their picks as you plan your own visit to the Great Minnesota Get‑Together.

What is your go-to at the fair every year?
- Pronto Pup! It was my favorite as a kid, so I get one every year.
- A ride on either the chair lift or the sky ride is a must. It is a great way to get from one end of the fairgrounds to another while also getting a great view.
- Pickle Beer from Giggles Campfire Grill – refreshing on a hot day!

What is your go-to at the fair every year?
- My family orients around two poles: the livestock barn and the art building. We love walking through and seeing (and smelling) all the animals and generally get a milkshake at the dairy barn.
- I always like to go through the art building and usually my family can bear it for a while too.
- In between, we do all kinds of food and drink!
What new thing have you heard is coming that you HAVE to try?
- Amish Donuts
- Pickle Pizza
We probably will always be a year behind because we aren’t willing to wait in line. Hope the lines for these are shorter this year!
What new things did you try last year?
- The Caramel Apple stand by the bandstand. It was really good…oh, and my daughter will be working there this year!
